Clickable Culture has a very interesting article on Second Life. It looks like every player caught breaking the games rules is not banned or suspended, but his avatar is sent to an hidden prison.
The article says that the prison "contains only rows of corn, two television sets, an aging tractor and a one-way teleport terminal allowing no escape. It exists as an alternative to standard disciplinary measures, which traditionally prevent access to Second Life completely." Clickable Culture has also the screenshots and the testimoniance of Yaffle, a Second Life player jailed. He says that the communication with other players was also cut off.
